Ziva Starr Raney

ZIVA STARR RANEY, and her husband TJ and sons Zachary and Noah, have been members of Judea Reform Congregation since 2005. Ziva served as President of JRC for 3 years from 2018-2021, including during the pandemic. Ziva is deeply committed to the success of our synagogue and brings her many years of professional expertise in nonprofit management, philanthropy, and leadership to all her roles at JRC. Currently, Ziva serves on JRC’s Board of Trustees, Executive Committee, the Governance Committee, and is working closely with a small team toward Israel engagement. Ziva is excited to serve as co-chair, along with Steve Simon, of From Strength to Strength: A Campaign to Expand Our Clergy Team.

Ziva has led a 25+ year career in the nonprofit sector, including as Senior Advancement Advisor at Make-A-Wish Foundation of America, and 15 years prior to that as a Jewish professional in executive positions at both national and local organizations. Throughout her career she has successfully navigated challenges big and small. In 2008, as the new Development Director in a Make-A-Wish chapter, she planned and led fundraising efforts that yielded the highest level of revenue to date, during an economic crisis. As a board leader, Ziva has led through multiple organizational crises’ demonstrating resilience and fortitude.

Currently, Ziva has developed 8 Gates Consulting to provide nonprofit consulting in governance, strategic planning, crisis management, executive coaching, and fundraising strategies. She is also a member of the North American Board of the Union for Reform Judaism and Chair of the URJ Governance Review Committee.

Steve Simon

STEVE SIMON, and his wife Chris, are an interfaith family and have been members of Judea Reform Congregation since 2007. Steve served as President of JRC from 2016-2018. He is deeply committed to the success of JRC and we have benefited from his professional expertise in financial leadership. Steve has demonstrated his commitment to seeing Judea Reform continue to support all the members of our community now and into the future. Steve was a core team member of JRC’s capital campaign, Framing our Future and as President he helped launch the Grinspoon Life and Legacy planned giving program. Steve has also co-chaired the Habitat for Humanity Interfaith Build to Honor Rabbi Friedman; the Interfaith Task Force; and Steve and Chris have chaired the High Holiday Food Drive for the past 15 years.

Prior to retirement, Steve managed a development organization and later a business in IBM. He was also recognized as the IBM Wall Street Executive, supporting major financial institutions integrating transformative IBM products.

During retirement, Steve and Chris have enjoyed extensive international travel. Steve also enjoys sailing, biking, kayaking, hiking, ancestry research, 3D printing and especially spending time with his grandsons. He continues to serve on JRC’s Finance Committee and also serves as Treasurer for the Chatham Council on Aging.

Steve is excited to serve as co-chair, with Ziva Starr Raney, of From Strength to Strength: A Campaign to Expand Our Clergy Team and is grateful to be part of the Judea Reform community.
